Role Description
This is a full-time Assistant Accountant role located on-site in Sydney, NSW at the legal heart of Sydney near the Town Hall. The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day accounting tasks, supporting financial reporting, trust account handling, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial documents.

Applicants that can demonstrate the following attributes and experience will be preferred:

Basic requirements (Must):
• Understanding of Australian accounting system
• Fluent in Chinese (Mandarin)
• Appropriate visa permitting them to work in Australia
• Experience in MYOB system

Desirable experience, knowledge and skills in the following general practice:
• Experience in Trust Account
• Experience in Smokeball or Leap System
• Experience in a law firm

The candidates are not required to have experience in all above areas, but one with experience and expertise would be preferred.

Required general skills and abilities:
• Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
• Documents fast comprehension and drafting skills
• A high level of attention to detail and technical excellence
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Rich general knowledge and common sense
• Strong time management and organisational skills, together with the capacity in managing and conduct multiple tasks with competing priorities
• Pressure handling ability and good team worker
• Be able to complete tasks with minimum supervision

Professional knowledge requirements:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in accounting, Finance, or related field
• Understand online banking system, especially Combiz system
• Knowledge of Australian taxation laws and compliance

Software knowledge requirements:
• Experience with LEAP/Smokeball would be desirable
• Must be proficient in Windows OS, MS Words, Excel and Outlook
• Microsoft 365, One Drive, PDF editing

Tasks and obligations
The candidate may perform following tasks:
• General accounting duties including processing Account Receivable and Payable and entering transactions for both Office and Trust Accounts accurately and within the required timeframe.
• Using Smokeball (Legal Practice Management System) to ensure statutory compliance with trust account management under supervision of legal directors.
• Monitoring and controlling account payable and receivable using MYOB and Smokeball system.
• Entering and recording daily bank statement transaction data using Smokeball system.
• Communicate with client to explain the invoices issued and chase up payments.
• Assisting external CPA to prepare the financial statement and ensure the accuracy of information contained in the financial report and statutory compliance.
• Issuing invoice/cheques/office receipt/trust receipt according to solicitors' instruction for our daily legal practice;
• Arranging payroll according to the employment contracts and attendance.
• Carrying on monthly reconciliation for trust account and office account.
• Using Commbiz to initiate and prepare the transactions for payments.
• Arranging for administrative firm needs including professional liability insurance, bill checking and payments, and monitoring solicitors and conveyancer’s licence registration / renewal etc.
• Assisting external auditor to finalize the solicitor trust account audit report.
• Other general office admin tasks; and
• May be assigned with other tasks from time to time.
